The Sprint

"Junior boys relay team lane 7". As everyone took their places I thought about how well we would do if we didn't give up or even not letting the fear of not succeeding overcome us. All the boys looked very agile and fit but I didn't make that let me down."Take your marks  Get set  GO! Everyone tries their best but we are amazingly coming first! "Go Reremoana" I hear people cheering in excitement from the sideline. As the pressure rises the intensity of the race increases while the race gets closer. Screams get louder and my turn is getting closer by a few meters. "Go go" shouts my team mate. I hold the batten firmly and get a pulse of energy flowing through my body. Wind passes my face like a cold winters breeze. The opponent catches up slightly and I give it all I got. Against all the counties teams we ended up placing 2nd. We celebrate our placing among ourselves then we hear that we have qualified for AUCKLAND CHAMPS!

lakewood lodge flying fox 2012

Closing your eyes and putting your hands behind your back. Leaning backwards and putting all your weight on the harness. Opening your eyes with your heart racing and the wind in your eyes. The pain as you slam in to the pad at the end. Three simple steps, up, twist and down and your off and running to the back to the top where you will wait for your next turn. Now for the fun stuff. Go upside down and reach for the water. Or spin around six times and go.

This is only one of the many awesome things at lakewood lodge.

Camp at Lakewood Lodge.

This is not me but it is a picture of the 11metres climbing wall.
Harness on and ready to go. My hands are shaking and my legs feel like jelly. I tell Abby that I was ready and she tugged on the rope. Hand-by-hand and foot-by-foot I made my way to the top. Half-way there I get stuck. I couldn't get all my weight on the small handhold. Then I started to panic and I gave up I told Abby that I wanted to go down but she told me to try again. I admit that I was really scared and I just couldn't hold on any longer. So Abby let me down and I went to sit down. I looked up at the huge wall and I breathed in and out slowly.
Afterwards I told Abby that I wanted to go on again and she let me. I went on and on planning each foot and handhold with the help of my team calling out to me. Finally I got to the part where I got stuck before. I breathed in slowly and went for it."Believe in yourself!"yelled Abby. With that I made it to the top and for me it literally felt like a heavy burden was lifted off my back. Next stop kayaking!

Planes

Hi I'm Keanu and I'm here to tell you more about planes.

Air New Zealand 777
Facts about planes
If you were to put a truck behind a 747 at take-off thrust, the truck would be blown to pieces almost half a km away.
A Boeing 747 stands at almost a 7 story building.
The Concorde, when flying at supersonic speeds, would heat its own fuselage to such an extent that you could fry an egg on its wing!  Aircrafts these days are highly computerized. So much that the pilot only has manual controls for about 3 minutes throughout the whole fight (Take off and landing)

Thanks for reading my post about Planes.

my great camp experience

My camp experience was great.

I was really proud of myself because at the beginning of wall climbing I was quite scared that I was going to fall off and that I will drop a bit and then stop but then I learnt to trust everybody and then was the first person in my group to make it up the medium wall.
I also overcame another fear of horses and learnt to enjoy everything.

The reason why I had my first fear was because the first time I rid a horse was bare back riding and I sort of made a new fear of horse's teeth because they seem to like to chew at my arm so ended with a bruise and now have two teeth marks on my arm.
This is Honey puff who bite me though she was a really good horse to ride!

Here is a link to the lakewood lodge website. Enjoy :)
